Defender Adam Montgomery’s loan spell has been cut short as he now returns to parent club Celtic, with the Livingston manager revealing why.
Montgomery made nine appearances for the West Lothian side, but has struggled for consistent minutes due to a season hampered by a calf injury.
Livingston manager David Martindale said the 23-year-old has picked up a similar injury, though more complex, which will rule him out of action for 12 to 16 weeks; effectively deeming his season over.
According to the Herald, Martindale revealed that the Hoops have opted to cancel the loan agreement due to the fresh injury news, relieving Livi of the financial strain that medical costs and wages would have borne. He was quick to praise the ‘class’ of the club, who weren’t required to make the decision.
He also thanked the club for the decision that they’ve made ‘out of morals’, predominantly highlighting the work of interim assistant coach Shaun Maloney, first team coach Stephen McManus, and head of academy Chris McCart.
Montgomery, who has a Premiership title and League Cup to his name, rose through the academy ranks at the Hoops. He has had spells at Aberdeen, St Johnstone, Fleetwood, Motherwell and Queen’s Park. He’ll now begin his recovery back at Lennoxtown.
