Celtic will have Easter weekend off next season following a tweak to the international calendar.
In recent years, it hasn’t been unusual for Celtic to play over Easter, with the SPFL scheduling fixtures across the holiday period.
This season, for example, Celtic are currently pencilled in to travel to Dundee on Easter Saturday for a 3pm kick-off, although that is likely to be moved for television coverage.
Next season, however, there will be no Easter fixture.
According to the Daily Mail, FIFA have altered the international calendar so that the spring international window will now encompass Good Friday and Easter Monday. Sources cited in the report state that the break will run across March 26 to March 29 next year, effectively removing the possibility of domestic league matches being played that weekend.
This season, the two-week international break begins after the weekend of March 21 and 22.
Under the revised structure, that pause shifts later, directly impacting Easter scheduling.
Before the international break, Celtic face Aberdeen for their rescheduled league match, before a trip to Ibrox at the weekend in the Scottish Cup.
It’s then two matches before the break. Celtic host Motherwell before travelling to Tayside to face Dundee United in a 12.30 pm kick-off on Sunday, 22nd March.
