Feyenoord were left feeling a bit like Denmark, maybe not quite as traumatised as Kasper Schmeichel after Kenny McLean’s halfway-line screamer, but the Dutch side arrive at Thursday’s clash with Celtic on the back of a bruising late defeat.
This time, there was no mad dash to London for Martin O’Neill. The interim boss confirmed he actually has his passport with him this time, avoiding a repeat of the Midtjylland drama when he had to race back to Glasgow after he’d forgotten it in the chaos of derby celebrations.
Celtic weren’t at their slickest in Paisley, but Callum McGregor’s stoppage-time winner ensured they head into Europe with momentum and with Hearts losing on Sunday, the Hoops now sit just four points off the top with a game in hand.
Feyenoord, meanwhile, collapsed late on Sunday afternoon. They fought back from an early deficit with goals from Leo Sauer and Bart Nieuwkoop, only to concede twice in the dying minutes. And the final blow was one that Celtic fans recognised instantly.
Kento Shiogai sealed the match with a lob straight out of Kenny McLean’s playbook.
With Feyenoord throwing bodies forward in search of an equaliser, the ball broke to the Japanese forward just inside the opposition half.
Spotting the goalkeeper miles off his line, he launched a stunning long-range effort that floated into the empty net, a near-carbon copy of McLean’s outrageous strike for Scotland against Denmark.

The 4–2 defeat leaves Feyenoord six points behind PSV in the Eredivisie title race and hosting Celtic on a low, with three losses in their last five league matches.
Celtic will hope to capitalise on that fragility as O’Neill leads them into another massive European night.
