There will be many twists and turns to go between now and the end of the season, but with those twists and turns, Celtic will need to go perfect if they are to lift the trophy.
But that doesn’t feel likely. Celtic haven’t beaten Rangers or Hearts in six attempts this season, and to assume that six points will be collected against the pair in the split is quite something.
Eight losses already, with seven to play, that’s no form of a league-winning side.
But it’s not something that’s caught many Celtic fans by surprise.
Many have seen it coming from a long way away, hence the protests and boycotts. Messages have tried to be sent to the club, but they’re on aeroplane mode and not receiving anything.
Robert Grieve, speaking on the Press Box podcast, believes that many Celtic fans knew that this was coming. He said:
“The one thing that struck me from Tanadise yesterday was the apathy from the Celtic fans.
“I think they’ve seen this coming. There was anger clearly there from a section of the support directed at the board members and the directors’ box.
“Clearly that was there to be seen, but I think when the cameras, the TV cameras panned round the other sections of the ground, I think most Celtic fans could see this coming.
“They had seen this coming, and I think that’s a problem. I don’t think there are many Celtic fans right now with seven games to go who believe their team is going to win seven games out of seven. So for that in itself, does that take them out of the equation? Arguably, it does.”
The lack of backing under Brendan Rodgers, and not just in the summer transfer window, followed by a January that was full of loans for subpar players, has landed Celtic in this position.
A massive overhaul is needed in the summer, and the rebuild could be bigger than what Ange oversaw in 2021.
