Go Ahead Eagles Send Celtic Hint

Go Ahead Eagles may have just hinted at a major summer departure after announcing the signing of goalkeeper Kjetil Haug.

It’s a move that comes shortly after reports linking Celtic with current number one Jari De Busser.

The Dutch side are well aware of Celtic’s interest in the Belgian goalkeeper as the Scottish champions begin planning another huge rebuild following their domestic double-winning season under Martin O’Neill.

Goalkeeper is expected to be one of the major areas Celtic assess this summer.

Kasper Schmeichel has now officially retired following the shoulder injury that ruled him out during the closing stages of the campaign, while Viljami Sinisalo impressed after stepping into the side during the title run-in.

Despite Sinisalo performing well though, there remains a feeling Celtic could still look to strengthen the position further ahead of Champions League qualifiers and another demanding season.

That is where De Busser’s name has started increasingly appearing.

The Belgian stopper enjoyed an impressive campaign with Go Ahead Eagles and has reportedly been monitored closely by Celtic scouts over recent months.

Now the Dutch club’s decision to bring in Haug has naturally sparked speculation they could already be preparing for De Busser’s departure.

Of course, signing another goalkeeper does not automatically confirm a transfer is imminent.

But given the timing – alongside growing reports of Celtic’s interest – it is difficult to ignore the possibility that contingency planning may already be underway behind the scenes.

Celtic’s goalkeeping department has changed dramatically over recent months.

Schmeichel’s injury and retirement accelerated Sinisalo into the spotlight, and while the Finnish goalkeeper handled the pressure impressively, the club’s recruitment team now appear to be actively surveying the market before the summer window properly opens.
