The debate around Celtic’s vacant manager’s position took another turn on Thursday night after the Green Brigade released a statement opposing the possible appointment of Robbie Keane.

Martin O’Neill also remains under consideration after leading Celtic to a league and Scottish Cup double. Despite that success, no final decision has been announced and discussion around the role has continued throughout the week.
Against that backdrop, the Green Brigade made their position clear in a lengthy statement published on social media.
The supporters’ group explained why they do not want Keane to become Celtic manager, with much of their statement focusing on his time as Maccabi Tel Aviv boss.
The Green Brigade set out their stance in a statement released on Thursday evening.
The Celtic board has wasted little time in sowing division. From initiating bans to considering a hugely divisive figure as manager.

A Green Brigade statement on X read: “OUR CLUB, OUR VALUES.
“As Celtic fans, we oppose the proposed appointment of Robbie Keane as manager of Celtic Football Club.
“Celtic supporters have a long and proud history of solidarity with the Palestinian people. For us, Robbie Keane’s decision to manage Maccabi Tel Aviv during the genocide in Gaza is impossible to ignore. To choose to manage a club in Israel while, less than 40 miles away, the same country was using indiscriminate weapons of mass murder against a defenceless people is unconscionable.
“Celtic was founded by a community shaped by the legacy of genocide, displacement and famine. Our club’s roots lie in solidarity with those who suffered injustice and oppression. We cannot forget where we came from, nor turn our backs on those facing genocide today.
“At a time when Celtic requires unity and collective purpose, this appointment would be deeply divisive among the support. It would also represent a predictable and uninspiring choice at a moment when greater ambition is needed.
“We urge the Celtic board to listen to supporters’ concerns and reconsider this appointment.
“NO TO KEANE.”
The statement comes during a week in which reports have suggested Celtic are continuing discussions with both O’Neill and Keane.

No appointment has been made and Celtic have yet to announce who will take charge going into next season.
With pre-season drawing closer, attention remains fixed on the club’s next move. The Green Brigade’s statement ensures the conversation around the managerial search now stretches beyond football matters alone and into the wider issues that have long been part of Celtic’s support.

Gtf keane
Total arseholes who have the cheek to quote our club or values. Their values are those of guttersnipes are their syncophantic support of Palestine is sickening to anyone who understands that they are simply supporting Hamas. I for one am backing Israel all the way.
Go find another location for your political protestations! WE DON’T WANT YOU IN PARADISE.
The Green Brigade should stop making statements that come across as “ All Celtic supporters “ oppose etc etc. The irony coming from a clique or cult type group stating we need unity speaking for me. Next time go with….. Some Celtic supporters and leave myself and some others out of your statements.
Well said mate.
Decades and centuries of constant hatred world wide is unfortunately an absolute. Rather than fighting for their solution I recommend looking in your own backyard first and fix that. Catholics and Protestants. Hypocritical people protesting against something they themselves can’t solve. Morgan Freeman said it best when asked “ How can we stop racism “.
His reply….. Stop talking about it.
Mon the Hoops!!!!
Abada is a great example of your own sectarianism. Talk and walk your bones. I call you bullshit. What a great Bhoy he was. Never wanted to leave but the political crap made him walk.
Well done.
I’m with the GB all the way with their opposition to this wee cretin becoming our manager.
