Celtic’s title celebrations continued into Sunday, and the players could not resist one cheeky dig at the biggest controversy of the week.

There is still, somehow, huge debate surrounding the dramatic stoppage-time penalty Celtic were awarded against Motherwell on Wednesday night, the moment many believe ultimately swung the title race back in the Hoops’ favour.

With seconds remaining at Fir Park, referee John Beaton awarded Celtic a penalty after a VAR review judged Sam Nicholson to have handled the ball inside the area following an aerial challenge with Auston Trusty.

The decision sparked outrage in some quarters, with many arguing the ball had actually come off his head not Nicholson’s arm.

Kelechi Iheanacho converted from the spot to hand Celtic a massive win, one that meant Martin O’Neill’s side went into the final day knowing victory over Hearts would secure the title.

And after doing exactly that with a dramatic 3-1 comeback win at Celtic Park, the Celtic squad appeared to troll the entire debate during their night of celebrations.

Photos circulating on social media showed several players posing with their hands placed on top of their heads in a clear reference to the controversial handball incident that has dominated Scottish football discussion over the past few days.

It’s an elite wind-up – fair play to the lads!
