Celtic have made an enquiry for Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan, according to journalist Anthony Joseph.

The Egypt international has been heavily linked with a move to Glasgow following an impressive World Cup, with reports from Spain claiming Celtic have already submitted two offers for the 24-year-old.

The latest of those claims suggested the Hoops had increased their proposal to €6 million after an opening bid fell short of Real Oviedo’s valuation.

However, Joseph’s update points to Celtic being at an earlier stage of the process.

An enquiry and an exploration of the conditions of a deal are not the same as a formal offer being placed on the table.

If Joseph’s information reflects the current position, reports of two Celtic bids — including a €6 million proposal — may have moved ahead of what has actually happened between the clubs.

The update makes clear that Hassan is a player the Hoops are keen to bring to Glasgow and that work is being done to understand what a transfer would require.

Hassan has one year remaining on his Real Oviedo contract and is also reported to have a €10 million release clause following the Spanish club’s relegation.

A clause does not necessarily mean Celtic would have to pay the full amount, but it gives Oviedo a clear reference point during negotiations and could explain why any deal would require careful handling.

The contrast between Joseph’s update and the claims emerging from Spain leaves the exact stage of the transfer uncertain.

Celtic appear to have established their interest and made contact to assess the conditions, but there is currently no clear confirmation from a reliable Scottish source that a formal bid has been submitted.

Hassan remains a serious Celtic target, with the club gathering information before deciding whether to turn that interest into an official offer.
