The fallout from Celtic’s chaotic Scottish Cup win at Ibrox in March is still continuing after Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh confirmed the club are still pursuing more than £1million in compensation from the Hoops.
The scenes came after Celtic knocked Rangers out of the cup at Ibrox, with supporters from both ends ending up on the pitch following the decisive penalty.
A number of Celtic fans initially entered the park celebrating the victory before Rangers supporters also moved towards the pitch from the opposite end as tensions escalated inside the stadium.
Police and stewards were forced to intervene amid the disorder.
One of the major areas of damage is understood to involve the electronic LED advertising system near the away section, with Rangers claiming the destruction caused significant financial losses.
Reports last week stated Rangers had presented Celtic with a bill worth over £1m for the damage caused during the incident.
However, Celtic are understood to believe a long-standing agreement between clubs limits compensation liability to £50,000.
Rangers, though, remain adamant they are entitled to substantially more.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh has now publicly addressed the issue and confirmed the club will continue pushing for a full settlement.
He said:
“I think the basics are known.
“We think the damage caused by their supporters is roughly £1.3m.
“We have asked them to pay for that, there’s a dispute over that, but we won’t get into tit-for-tat via the media.
“We’ll have that conversation with Celtic and the league and SFA.
“We’ve suffered extensive damage and expect to be remedied for that.
“There are multiple avenues for that. There are rules but also ways to arbitrate and seek recovery for that.” [The Herald]
The incident remains one of several flashpoints between the Glasgow rivals during a season filled with controversy both on and off the pitch.
Celtic ultimately went on to win the Premiership title dramatically on the final day, while further pitch invasions and disorder following the Hearts clash at Celtic Park have also since come under investigation by Police Scotland and the SPFL.
They will finish their season with a Scottish Cup final this weekend against Dunfermline.
Their stadium isn’t worth £1.3 million.

It is laughable! Tell Cavenagh to show the evidence of the damage, the invoice for the goods to prove their worth, receipt for the said goods to prove that the New Rangers in fact OWN them, and video proof that the alleged damage was definitely done my Celtic Supporters on the claimed day. Oh, and tell him to pay the Face-Painter!!
