Celtic-linked Jakob Breum appears to be on the verge of joining Saint-Étienne, with outlets across Denmark, France and the Netherlands now reporting that the deal is close to completion.
The Go Ahead Eagles attacker was mentioned around Celtic earlier in the summer, but the 22-year-old now looks set to continue his career in France unless there is a late collapse before the final paperwork is done.
Tipsbladet report that Breum is leaving the Dutch club and is expected to put pen to paper on a long-term deal with Saint-Étienne. The Danish outlet claim the contract will run for four years, with the option of a further season included.
Foot Mercato have also backed up the Dutch reporting and say the transfer is now lined up, with only the final formalities still to be completed. Voetbal International and De Stentor have also carried the line from the Netherlands, making this look far more advanced than a loose summer link.
Breum has developed well at Go Ahead Eagles since arriving from OB, becoming an important attacking player for the Eredivisie side.
Across his spell in the Netherlands, he has scored 20 goals and provided 17 assists in 105 appearances. That return has helped push him onto the radar of clubs outside the Dutch market, with Saint-Étienne now moving strongly to secure him.
Breum is also a Denmark under-21 international and can operate in different attacking roles, which made him an interesting profile while Celtic were assessing wide and creative options.
But as things stand, Breum now looks bound for Ligue 2 rather than Glasgow.
Saint-Étienne are preparing for another promotion push after missing out on a return to Ligue 1 last season. Breum is being lined up as part of that rebuild, giving them a young attacker with a strong amount of senior football already behind him.
For Celtic, there has been no suggestion of a late formal move or any attempt to hijack the deal. The interest never appeared to move into a more advanced stage from a Glasgow point of view.
With a medical now expected and a long-term contract waiting in France, Breum looks set to become another name linked with Celtic before moving elsewhere.
Celtic still need movement in the transfer market, with pre-season underway and supporters waiting for the squad to take clearer shape. Breum, unless something changes very late, will not be part of that work.
