Celtic’s January transfer window was not a league-winning one, and it’s showing now.
Araujo was the brightest spark to come from the winter window, and he’s now out injured and receiving treatment down at Bournemouth.
Cvancara is also injured, but was struggling for consistent starts in the Hoops, while Junior Adamu is also struggling for minutes.
Benjamin Arthur has just started getting onto the pitch for the Hoops, with Trust suspended over the past few weeks and Dane Murray falling out of favour.
Joel Mvuka is a lucky escape for Celtic. He was close to signing permanently, but some medical issues led to that change to a loan, and it’s probably for the best. He has just 45 minutes of league football for the Hoops this season, and he did not impress.
Chris Sutton believes that there is no way Martin O’Neill signed off on these January signings and that his former manager is simply trying to keep the dressing room united as they chase the league title.
Speaking on the Daily Record Podcast, he said:
“Even with the players coming in in January because I think he realises how delicate the situation is at the club.
“I think he realises that he has a fragile dressing room, so his game is trying to keep everybody on side, trying to keep that harmony, trying to talk the signings up in January when, I’m telling you, he’s not having those signings. I’m telling you.
“But that’s the path he’s gone down and I do understand that because, really, when you look at things, what’s his alternative?”
A massive rebuild is required in the summer, from on the pitch to the strategy off it.
Celtic face a real chance of playing Conference League football next season; good luck attracting players to that.
