After Kasper Schmeichel’s injury that ruled him out for the season and led him to retire from football, Vini Sinisalo stepped into the sticks, but there is a feeling that he can be improved upon this summer.

Celtic have been linked to Jari De Busser over the last week or two.

And now it’s been reported that the keeper is keen on the idea of becoming Celtic’s new number one goalkeeper this summer as speculation surrounding a move to Glasgow continues growing.

Last week, Go Ahead Eagles appeared to move towards preparing for life after De Busser by completing the signing of goalkeeper Kjetil Haug.

Now journalist Pete O’Rourke reports the player himself is open to the move.

According to the report, De Busser is “keen” on the possibility of joining Celtic and taking over as the club’s long-term first-choice goalkeeper.

The financial side of the deal also appears potentially very achievable for Celtic.

Jari De Busser remains under contract with Go Ahead Eagles until June 2027, but sources cited in the report suggest a fee in the region of £2 million could be enough to bring the goalkeeper to Glasgow this summer.

That would represent relatively low-risk business for a player entering his prime years.

Celtic’s goalkeeping situation has changed dramatically over recent months.

Schmeichel’s shoulder injury and subsequent retirement accelerated Viljami Sinisalo into the starting role during the title run-in and Scottish Cup success.

The Finnish goalkeeper handled the pressure impressively and showed plenty of promise, but there remains a growing sense Celtic could still look to strengthen the position further ahead of another huge season and crucial Champions League qualifiers.

Jari De Busser’s profile certainly fits the type of market Celtic often target – talented, affordable and with potential resale value still attached.
