Joe Hart might not be playing anymore, but you can tell the game still means everything to him. On Tuesday night he was back at Shrewsbury Town, stepping in for one night to help out with the goalkeepers, in a 2-1 away win over Salford City.
There was no big announcement. No ceremony. Just Hart turning up to lend a hand at the club where it all started for him. He came through the ranks there before building a career that took him to titles, England caps and spells at clubs like Celtic.
What comes through straight away is that he hasn’t lost the hunger to win. He talks the same way he did in Glasgow. High standards. Responsibility. Looking after the next generation.
Celtic supporters will recognise that tone. During his time at Parkhead, Hart often spoke about what it takes to keep winning and how tight a dressing room needs to be when pressure builds.
He said: (Post-Salford), “It was really, really nice to help out… I said if I could help, I would. Tonight it worked out perfect.
“I want to come in and I want to help, I want to use everything that I’ve amassed over the years.
“It feels like a real connection there and that’s the most important thing for me… a connection between the players, the club and the people they’re representing.
“It’s not easy to just keep winning and winning, especially when the club struggled so much this season, so credit to everyone.
“My life’s been surreal for the whole thing.”

There’s no show in what he’s saying. It’s just a player who’s been around long enough to know that nothing works unless the group sticks together and everyone puts a shift in.
At Celtic, he was in teams that had to live with pressure every single week. He understood that talking doesn’t change much. Performances do. A clean sheet. A save when it matters.
