Alistair Johnston and Celtic-linked midfielder Benjamin Tahirovic were both in from the start as Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina drew 1-1 at the World Cup.
For Celtic supporters, there was plenty to keep an eye on.
Bosnia went ahead after 21 minutes through Jovo Lukic, giving Canada a difficult afternoon in front of their own supporters.
Johnston was booked early on, but the Celtic right-back stayed in the game and played his part as Canada looked for a way back.
That moment eventually came in the second half, with Cyle Larin coming off the bench to score in the 78th minute and make it 1-1.
For Johnston, it was another big night on the international stage. He has grown into an important player for both Celtic and Canada, and these matches will only give him more experience before he returns to Glasgow.
The other name Celtic fans will have noticed was Tahirovic.
The Brondby midfielder has been heavily linked with Celtic in recent weeks, with reports suggesting the Hoops are very keen on him this summer.
Starting at a World Cup will not do anything to quieten that interest.
Tahirovic is 23, has already played for Ajax and Brondby, and now has more tournament football with Bosnia on his CV. He fits the kind of midfield profile Celtic may look at as Martin O’Neill gets ready for a big summer rebuild.
A World Cup can change a transfer situation quickly.
There is no suggestion that a deal is close, and plenty still has to happen before Tahirovic ends up in Glasgow.
But with Johnston already flying the Celtic flag for Canada, and one of the club’s most talked-about targets starting on the other side, this was a World Cup opener worth watching from a Parkhead point of view.
