Josh Mulligan is quickly becoming in-demand this summer after attracting English Championship interest.

According to reports, West Ham United have now made an initial enquiry regarding the Hibernian midfielder.

The Irons were relegated form the Premier League on the final day and will be playing football in the Championship next season.

No formal bid has been submitted at this stage, with the London club first looking to clarify outgoing business before accelerating any potential move.

Mulligan only joined Hibs from Dundee last summer but has already made a major impression in Edinburgh.

Celtic are among the sides known to have tracked his development closely over the last year.

The Hoops were linked with Mulligan before January and continued monitoring his performances during the second half of the campaign as they assessed potential midfield options ahead of another major rebuild.

However, Celtic’s current managerial uncertainty may complicate any immediate movement in the market.

With the club still deciding between Martin O’Neill and Robbie Keane for the permanent manager’s role, there remains a growing feeling recruitment decisions are being slowed until a new boss is fully in place.

Mark Hendry recently reported in CeltsAreHere Extra Time that while scouting work continues behind the scenes, no major signings are expected to be fully greenlit until “a gaffer is in the door with his feet planted under the desk.”

Of course, when it comes to Celtic’s recruitment strategy, surprises are never entirely impossible.

And with several midfielders potentially leaving this summer – including Arne Engels, Reo Hatate and Paulo Bernardo – the club’s interest in players like Mulligan may yet intensify quickly once the managerial picture becomes clearer.
