Kasper Schmeichel was back at Lennoxtown this morning, and the first thing that stood out was his mood. Smiling, relaxed, and taking time to greet Martin O’Neill, the goalkeeper looked at ease despite the news he shared earlier in the week.
That update was heavy. Schmeichel confirmed he will miss the rest of the season after serious damage to his shoulder. The list of injuries explains everything about the road ahead. Surgery. Long recovery. No quick return.
Yet he was still out on the pitch.
Schmeichel worked with the ball at his feet during the session. Light involvement, nothing demanding, but enough to stay connected to his teammates.
There were no goalkeeping drills. No diving. That part is off limits for now. The injury simply does not allow it. His role today was about presence more than performance.

Celtic have already had to adjust without him. Viljami Sinisalo has stepped in and taken the gloves, and the team has kept moving through a busy run of fixtures.
There is also no clarity yet on what comes next beyond that. Schmeichel’s contract runs out in the summer, and there has been no update on whether he will stay or move on. That uncertainty now sits alongside his recovery.
What it does show is how he is handling it. Still involved. Still taking part in training even without being able to play.
For now, his focus shifts fully to recovery. The work starts away from the spotlight. Long days, slow progress, and patience.
This morning was just a small glimpse of that process.
