Celtic’s search for a striker didn’t end in January and it still hasn’t.
The Hoops were heavily linked with Kieron Bowie across both the summer and winter windows, with the club desperate to strengthen in a problem position.
But when a move finally materialised, it wasn’t to Glasgow.
Instead, Hibernian accepted an offer from Italy and Bowie made it clear Celtic were never truly in the running. Verona signed the striker.
Speaking on the links, he said to the Hibs Observer: “I think a few times, maybe something had been mentioned.
“I didn’t want to stay in Scotland, or even in the UK. I wanted to try and do something a bit different, culturally, and experience something new.”
It’s a telling admission. Even if Celtic had launched a bid and made a move for the then-Hibs striker, it looks like nothing would’ve materialised.
Celtic’s need for a striker was obvious and remains so.
There have been flashes.
Kelechi Iheanacho stepped up in the Scottish Cup semi-final, producing two goals in extra time as Celtic ran riot in a 6-2 win.
Four goals in six minutes at the start of extra time turned the game on its head and sent a reminder of the attacking firepower that can be there. But it also highlighted the inconsistency in this Celtic team.
Iheanacho has shown he can deliver but fitness concerns linger, and reliability over a run of games remains a question.
That leaves Celtic where they started. Still searching and still needing a focal point they can trust week in, week out.
And with the summer window approaching, it’s a decision that could define the next era at the club.
