Liam Scales has committed his future to Celtic after signing a new long-term deal, extending his stay at the club during what has been a steady rise in his role within the squad.
The Irish defender has grown into a regular figure at the back, with his appearances increasing season by season. After arriving from Shamrock Rovers and spending time out on loan, Scales has worked his way into the team and now looks settled as part of the defence.
This new deal reflects that progress. With close to 150 appearances already behind him, Scales is no longer viewed as a developing option but as a player trusted to start games and handle different roles across the back line.
His versatility has also played a part. While mainly used as a centre-back, he has filled in at left-back when needed, giving the manager another option when the squad has been stretched.

Speaking after signing the deal, Scales made it clear he sees his future firmly at the club.
He said: (Celtic FC), “I’m delighted to commit for another few years here.
“It’s an amazing club and I’ve grown to love it. I feel a real part of it now.
“I really enjoy myself here, I love my life here in Scotland and it was good for all parties to get this done.
‘I’m hoping that these next years will be my best.’
“I feel like I’ve got the game experience now, I’ve played nearly 150 games for the club and I’ve played for Ireland.
“It’s all coming together nicely and I just want to continue on the right trajectory over these next few years.”
He said: “I’m delighted for him and delighted for the club because I think Liam’s been outstanding, and since I’ve been here, he’s been absolutely terrific.
“We are a better team when he’s in and he’s also got the ability to play left-back, and I think it’s good news for the club because he’s always there.
“I like him a lot and I think he’s been a major player for us this season.”
Scales’ development has come through regular minutes and adapting to different demands. Earlier in his Celtic career, he was in and out of the side, but consistent game time has allowed him to settle into the pace and physical side of the league.
His reading of the game has improved, and he has become more comfortable playing out from the back. That has helped Celtic build from deeper areas, especially in matches where control of possession is needed.
With a new deal in place, Scales now enters the next phase of his time at Celtic as an established member of the squad, looking to build on a season where he has been relied upon more than ever.
