Sevilla have been reportedly keen to hijack a move for Luis Palma and the reason why has now become clear.
It’s the price. Palma’s reported €3.5 million valuation has been flagged as a bargain by Sevilla, making the Celtic winger an attractive low-risk option heading into the summer window.
According to Orgullo Biri, that affordability is what has pushed Sevilla to act and potentially hijack a deal already in place.
Lech Poznań, where Palma is currently on loan, are keen to make his move permanent. The Polish league leaders have a buy option in the deal but crucially, the final decision rests with the player.
They had hoped to buy the player in the summer and sell on for profit immediately, conceding that the fee, which is double their record transfer, is just too steep for them.
But Sevilla could throw a spanner in the works.
A switch to La Liga could prove difficult to turn down for the player.
Palma has impressed in Poland, racking up 18 goal contributions across all competitions and playing a key role in a title push.
That form has only strengthened his market.
But there is a complication with Sevilla.
Their interest is dependent on survival.
The Spanish side currently sit just one point above the relegation zone, and their summer planning hinges on staying in La Liga. If they stay up, they could make a move for Palma.
