Celtic are considering a bid for Aaron Malouda – and could make their move before the end of Sabah’s European qualifying campaign.
The Hoops are in the market for another versatile winger and Malouda, son of former Chelsea star Florent, is seen as a strong option. Celts Are Here understands no official offer has yet been tabled for the playmaker but his club are aware of serious interest from Parkhead.
Sabah hoped the 20-year-old would be available for their Champions League qualifiers having played well against TNS in the first-round across the past fortnight. But now we understand the Azerbaijan champions are resigned to losing their talent before his value skyrockets.
It is understood his club are holding out for more than €3million plus added bonuses and a percentage from a sell-on down the line. Where Celtic are concerned, their recent transfer of Camilo Duran from Premier League rivals Qarabag for €6.5m is seen as a measuring stick for the sort of fee Sabah can command for Malouda.
It’s also understood, however, they are not expecting to land the same number. However they know the financial muscle Celtic have for a player in their division.
Senior sources have revealed other clubs are interested in Malouda and have already had offers submitted and rejected.
We understand Sampdoria are keen but it is Basel of Switzerland who have made the most progress on a deal, even if their initial bid of £500,000 was turfed out back in June.
It is believed the Swiss giants are preparing a second offer in the coming days.
