Marcelo Saracchi’s agent has cleared up the player’s situation after more talk in Scotland about a possible return to Celtic.

Saracchi spent last season on loan at Celtic and made a good impression in a short space of time. He brought energy on the left, got stuck into challenges and gave the team another option in a position that has been discussed a lot by supporters.

Because of that, his name has continued to come up this summer. With Boca Juniors not expected to keep him long-term, it was natural that some Celtic fans wondered whether the club might try to bring him back.

Martin O’Neill previously made it clear he would like to bring Saracchi back to Celtic if a deal could be done, joking that he would have handed him a 25-year contract for his role in the goal against Hearts.

O’Neill also said Celtic had held conversations with the player’s agent and that the club would see where those talks went.

However, speaking to CeltsAreHere, Saracchi’s agent, Marcelo Tejera, has now made clear that those conversations have not led to a formal offer from Celtic.

Tejera said: “Celtic FC never made an offer for Saracchi.”

That is the main point from the player’s side.

Tejera also said he does not know what is happening inside Celtic, but from his side, the strange part is that no offer has ever arrived.

Celtic may have discussed Saracchi internally. There may also have been interest from inside the club. But as far as the player’s camp is concerned, there has been no formal bid.

However, no progress has been made for over a month, and time is now running out for Celtic.

Saracchi has also been linked with Independiente and Estudiantes in Argentina, but CeltsAreHere understands he is not expected to make that move.

There is understood to be another European side showing growing interest in Saracchi.

The Uruguayan already knows the club, understands the Scottish game and would not need the same settling-in period as a completely new signing. That is why plenty of supporters have kept an eye on his situation since the loan ended.

But the message from his side is clear. Despite fresh reports linking Celtic with another move, no formal offer has been made.

Martin O’Neill has already spoken about Celtic needing more players this summer, with the squad still short in a few areas. Camilo Duran is set to become the first signing of the window, but more business will be needed before the season gets properly underway.

Whether left-back becomes one of the areas Celtic look at remains to be seen.

Saracchi looked like a sensible option to many after his loan spell, but unless Celtic come back with something formal, his future now looks more likely to be elsewhere in Europe.

  1. I dont think MON has a clue whats going on.

Tried to stick up for the board by saying it was his fault for delay in confirming Maloney & Fozzy when that really didnt wash, as it was a further 2 weeks before that got sorted amid rumours of pay cuts.

Bottom line, if MON wanted Saracchi & Iheanacho back, then he only has to say so and the club does the deals.

The usual late transfer moves have been a constant theme at our club and imo we were crying out for a new manager and a new outlook.

I will happily chip in to contribute to a statue of MON after last season’s title win, but its now apparant that he will not challenge the board or his mate DD and I fear the worst for next season
