Marcelo Saracchi’s chances of returning to Celtic now appear to be fading, with the left-back’s future still expected to be away from Boca Juniors.
The Uruguayan spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic and made a positive impression during his short spell in Glasgow.
That led to questions over whether Celtic could try to bring him back on a permanent deal this summer, especially with Boca understood to be open to moving him on.
However, CeltsAreHere understands Saracchi is not expected to join Independiente at this stage. Instead Saracchi is believed to be waiting on another option from a European side, while Celtic have not returned with fresh contact over a permanent deal.
As things stand, a return to Glasgow now looks unlikely unless Celtic make a late move.
That is the key change in the situation.
Celtic had been linked with a second loan deal after Saracchi’s first loan spell, but there has been no sign of the Hoops pushing ahead in recent days.
Saracchi remains in a difficult position at Boca. He is not expected to continue long-term in Argentina, and his representatives have been assessing other routes for him this summer.
A European move now appears to be the more likely direction, but Celtic do not currently look to be the club driving that interest.
That may disappoint supporters, as Saracchi brought energy and aggression down the left side during his time at Celtic. He settled quickly, looked comfortable in the system, and gave the squad another option in a position where depth has been questioned.
The issue now is whether Celtic have moved on to other targets.

Left-back remains a position worth watching, but Saracchi’s name no longer appears to be at the front of the queue.
Unless Celtic return with fresh contact, the player looks more likely to continue his career elsewhere in Europe.
For now, the door is not completely closed, but it is certainly not swinging back open either.
