Marcelo Saracchi’s agent, Marcelo Tejera, has told Celts Are Here that Celtic have not been in touch about a permanent move for the left-back.
That comes after recent reports claimed Saracchi could return to Glasgow this summer following his loan spell from Boca Juniors last season.
Speaking exclusively to Celts Are Here, Tejera said: “The first thing that needs to happen is for the club’s CEO to tell me of their interest in the player. And that never happened.”
That is an important line. It does not mean Celtic are not interested in Saracchi. It means they have not contacted his representative about a deal.
Celtic may still choose to pursue the player through other channels, but Tejera says no contact has been made with him.
Tejera confirmed that other clubs have been in touch about the player. He also said there has been interest from another Scottish club, but he did not name them.
Saracchi is not expected to stay at Boca Juniors, so there is clearly a chance he moves this summer. The question is where he goes next, and whether Celtic decide to make their interest formal.
From Celtic’s side, left-back remains a position to watch. Kieran Tierney is still away with Scotland at the World Cup, which means he will not be back at Lennoxtown straight away for pre-season. Martin O’Neill reportedly wants more depth there before the campaign gets going properly.
Saracchi would bring plenty Celtic already know and like. He has been in the building, understands the league, and showed he can make an impact in big moments. His loan spell was somewhat interrupted by injury, but when available, he gave Celtic energy, aggression and real drive down the left.
But as things stand, Celtic have not made their move to Tejera. He was clear with Celts Are Here that everything he said is true, and his comments leave a question over how far the reported Celtic interest has actually gone.
For now, Saracchi returning to Celtic remains possible, but there is no contact with his camp to suggest it is moving forward yet.

Genius tactic from the Celtic board. Pretend they are not interested by not contacting Saracchi’s club! That way they might get another couple of hundred thousand off his fee once they decide to show interest, but if he goes somewhere else it will just be bad luck. Absolute genius!
To get a proven quality player who has settled into the country and with the squad, for such a small fee, is a no-brainer.
That fact that Celtic has not even bothered to contact his agent is astounding but not surprising.

Why is an easy, pretty cheap, obvious, no risk signing like Saracchi not already been made?
No lessons have been learned.
Hearts have already signed 5 players, a month into the close season and we have signed no one.
Do we have a recruitment department?
Presumably we do, in which case, what have they been doing since the January transfer window closed?
Everyone expects Maeda and Engels to leave during the summer so why aren’t their replacements in the building already?
