Martin O’Neill has confirmed Celtic have already submitted offers for further transfer targets as the club close in on their first signing of the summer.
Camilo Duran is set to become the first new arrival of the window, with the Qarabağ striker undergoing his Celtic medical ahead of a proposed move to Parkhead.
But O’Neill has now made it clear the Colombian forward will be the first of a few additions.
Speaking to CelticPlayer, the Hoops boss revealed that work is ongoing behind the scenes, with several targets under consideration and multiple bids already lodged.
O’Neill said:
“We have a number of players that we’re looking at.
“We’ve had a number of offers in for players as well at the same time.
“And I’m hoping by the time that, well, hopefully in the not-too-distant future, and I mean maybe in the next couple of weeks, that we will have some really decent players at the Football Club.
“To add to some very decent players we have at the Football Club.”
It is a significant update after weeks of frustration among supporters over the lack of visible movement in the transfer market.
Duran now appears to be on the brink of becoming O’Neill’s first signing since returning to the Celtic dugout, but the manager’s comments suggest the club are actively trying to accelerate further business.
Celtic are expected to strengthen across several areas this summer.
A goalkeeper remains on the agenda following Kasper Schmeichel’s retirement, while defensive cover, midfield reinforcements and additional attacking options are also being assessed.
The club also face potential outgoings, with several first-team players attracting interest after the World Cup.
O’Neill’s admission that offers have already been submitted should provide some reassurance that Celtic are not simply monitoring the market… for a change.
The next challenge is turning those bids into completed deals.
With the squad now preparing in pre-season and Champions League qualification on the horizon, the manager will want as many new additions as possible through the door quickly.
Duran looks set to be first. If O’Neill gets his way, others should follow soon.
