“That is what surprised me, that they were willing to back the manager and bring the signing in from Bournemouth (Julian Araujo). I think after Tuesday it was definitely a big worry for me, I must admit, against Motherwell.

“Whoever comes in, if it’s Martin, he has got to be there until at least the summer. If I’m Martin O’Neill and I have felt that bit in myself, I would say I want to be here for 18 months.

“They give Martin some money, and bring in the players he wants. If you are going to change the manager again in the summer, I think it’s something you have to be careful of.

“You would have to, something like that.

“Maybe that is what Martin will look for now, because they have come back. Martin has come back the first time and done ever so well.”
