Martin O’Neill has welcomed the confirmation of his backroom staff after Celtic officially announced that Shaun Maloney, Mark Fotheringham and Stephen McManus will all remain part of the first-team coaching setup.
The announcement brings to an end weeks of uncertainty surrounding Maloney and Fotheringham, whose futures had been the subject of lengthy negotiations before agreements were finally reached.
With pre-season now under way, O’Neill can begin preparations for the new campaign with the coaching team that helped guide Celtic to a remarkable domestic double last season.
Reacting to the news, the Celtic manager paid tribute to everyone involved in last season’s success while turning his attention firmly towards the challenges ahead.
O’Neill said to the club’s website:
“Everybody at the club played their part in our achievements last season and we now look ahead as again we strive together to bring our supporters more success.”
It is a brief but significant message from the Celtic boss.
Rather than focusing solely on his coaching staff, O’Neill touched on the collective effort behind last season’s league and Scottish Cup triumphs, acknowledging the contribution of everyone at the club.
