Callum McGregor’s future has come back into focus after strong claims were made on the STV Radio Football Show suggesting a move to Saudi Arabia could be developing.
The Celtic captain has been linked with a move away in recent months, but the latest comments go further than previous discussion. With the season entering its final stretch, any uncertainty around the club’s main midfielder stands out.
McGregor remains central to how Celtic play. He dictates tempo, keeps the ball moving, and is the reference point in midfield when games become tight. With a title race still live, his role has not changed on the pitch.

Speaking on the show, Ewen Cameron outlined what he claims to have heard regarding McGregor’s situation. Producer Callum Bell then backed up that line, suggesting similar information had reached him.
The discussion pointed towards a possible move to Saudi Arabia, with Cameron going further to suggest a reunion with Brendan Rodgers.
He said: “McGregor is clearly weighing up his options, and I’ve been told, and I don’t know if you’ve heard this, McGregor’s off to Saudi. That’s what I’ve heard.
That view was backed up by producer Callum Bell, who said: “He’s not saying that to cameras, but I’ve heard similar things.”
Cameron would then end the discussion, saying, “Yeah, so he’s off to Saudi. So McGregor’s gone. I think he’s going to end up with Rodgers, that’s what’s been said.”
There has been no confirmation from Celtic or McGregor to support those claims. The midfielder continues to start matches and lead the side through a demanding run of fixtures.
However, McGregor has made it clear he is willing to stay at the club if there is proper backing from the board. His recent comments have been among the most open he has been about Celtic needing to progress and do more moving forward.
The Rodgers link adds another angle, given their previous time together, but again there is no indication from the club or player that any move is in progress.
For now, Celtic’s focus remains on the run-in. McGregor’s role in that is unchanged, even as outside noise continues to build around his future.

The days of him dictating tempo, which he never did against decent oppositon anyway, are gone.
Slows play down with his constant back & side passes and his fear of losing possession.
We need a proper leader and someone far more bold and creative in midfield.

Terry, I’ve been saying the same about McGregor for the best part of two seasons, but the managers kept picking and praising him.
I can’t remember the last time he controlled a game.

Plus, he has hinted at the backstabbing from the board going on inside Celtic Park. Why would he want to stay beyond this season.
