Andy Halliday believes Miguel Chaiwa is exactly the type of midfielder Celtic should be targeting, with interest in the Hibs man already well established.
As revealed by CeltsAreHere, Celtic’s pursuit has gone beyond initial scouting. Talks between the clubs first took place during the January window, but stalled when Hibs placed a higher valuation on the 21-year-old than Celtic were willing to meet at the time.
That hasn’t ended the conversation.
Further contact has been made in recent weeks, indicating that Celtic remain keen to revisit a deal. The situation is very much alive, with dialogue ongoing between both sides.
Chaiwa is understood to be open to joining Celtic, with the opportunity to step into a side competing at the top of the Premiership and in Europe seen as a natural progression in his career.
He’s a combative, disciplined midfielder who operates comfortably in deeper areas, reading the game early, covering ground, and breaking up play.
Chaiwa played the full 90 minutes against Celtic at the weekend, contributing interceptions and clearances while dealing with sustained pressure for long spells.
Halliday sees that as exactly what Celtic have been missing.
“He is the type of player that Celtic need,” he said on Open Goal.
“Legs, energy, wins the ball back well, uses his body well. I think he’s a good player.”
With Celtic expected to reshape their midfield in the summer, Chaiwa fits a very specific need.
