Celtic’s interest in Hibernian midfielder Miguel Chaiwa has moved beyond early scouting, with discussions between the clubs taking place both in January and more recently.
CeltsAreHere understands that initial negotiations were held during the winter window, but no agreement was reached at that stage. Hibernian are understood to have placed a higher valuation on the player than Celtic were prepared to meet, which brought those talks to a halt.
The situation has not gone away. Further contact between the clubs has taken place in recent weeks, suggesting Celtic remain interested in bringing the midfielder to Glasgow. While there is still no agreement in place, the dialogue between both sides is ongoing.
Chaiwa is understood to be open to joining Celtic, with the opportunity to step into a squad competing at the top end of the Premiership and in European football a natural next step in his development.
Chaiwa, 21, has made his name at Hibernian as a tough, reliable midfielder who is happy sitting deeper. He reads situations early, gets around the pitch, and doesn’t shy away from a challenge. Those qualities have been clear in games against stronger sides, where he’s had to break things up and keep the ball moving under pressure.
For Celtic, that kind of player would fill a gap that has shown up at times this season. There have been spells where the midfield has been too easy to play through, especially when matches open up. Someone who can hold their position and deal with those moments would bring a better balance to the side.
The fact he’s already playing in Scotland also helps. He knows what the league demands, both in terms of pace and physicality, so he wouldn’t need much time to settle in.
For now, the deal hinges on whether Celtic and Hibernian can find common ground on the transfer fee. With discussions continuing and the player open to the move, this is one to watch as the summer window approaches.

“Celtic won’t meet asking price shocker”
And you’re surprised how?
The biscuit tin has a very big padlock on it
It’s difficult to match the positivity of some space cadets like you!
Did you go to school for these qualifications?
Are you aware until ratbag Rodgers was shown the door, (yes, he was told he could go), Celtic had actually outspent any four clubs in Scotland combined this season alone?
Clearly you aren’t!
Why not? Because you don’t do your homework! You just talk nonsense!
