Celtic Stance On Mika Baur Transfer As Update Emerges – Report

Celtic are still hopeful a deal for Mika Baur can be agreed.

Reports emerged that the Hoops and Paderborn had still not agreed on a fee for the midfielder, with the German side even willing to let him go on a free next summer rather than let him depart now for a sum below their valuation.

The 22-year-old was instrumental in helping his side achieve promotion last season. He played 33 times in the 2. Bundesliga, twice in the cup, and rounded off the season by beating Wolfsburg in the playoff as Paderborn returned to the top flight.

Mark Hendry has now provided an exclusive update on Baur amid the news that a fee is yet to be struck between both parties:

“I understand Baur wants a move to Celtic this summer despite Paderborn’s desire to keep hold of him. And while some reports have suggested that his club would prefer to lose him on a free next year than sell him below their asking price, I understand Celtic still believe they can do a deal before the window shuts.”

Hendry also states that it’s understood that Baur’s representatives are also pushing for a deal to be agreed.

The Hoops kick off their 26/27 Premiership campaign on Monday, 3 August, at home to Dundee as they unfurl the champions’ flag.

They host AC Milan in their final pre-season friendly tomorrow, meaning any new arrivals will be coming straight in at the deep end of the competitive action.

Bodø/Glimt are expecting a formal offer for striker Kasper Høgh, who has been linked with a move to Celtic since January.

Martin O’Neill needs to bolster his attacking options, particularly with Daizen Maeda’s imminent transfer to Ipswich. The Japan international has completed his medical ahead of an £8m move, with £2m add-ons.

Despite the fee issues, Baur could still become a Celtic player. With his representatives also pushing for a move, and personal terms already agreed, it’s now a case of the hierarchy actually getting a deal over the line so O’Neill can have another option in the centre of the pitch.
