Benjamin Nygren returned to Lennoxtown this week with more than just minutes in his legs. The midfielder comes back off the back of a defining international break, one that has shifted his own season and perhaps his outlook going into the run-in.
Sweden’s qualification came down to one night. A full stadium, everything on the line, and no margin for error. Nygren didn’t just play a part, he shaped it, providing two assists in a game that turned late.
That moment matters when he steps back into this Celtic side. The team has been chasing, trying to stay close in a title race that hasn’t settled. The gap is there, but not out of reach.
He said: (Celtic FC YouTube), “It was an unbelievable experience… the best experience so far in my football career.
“It was almost like a movie.
“Myself and everyone else in the stadium just went absolutely crazy. We just ran onto the pitch and celebrated with everyone.
“In Sweden we were counted out and we made it… I want to do the same here.
“I bring a lot of confidence back. I just want to do the same thing here.”
That last line is the one that carries into Sunday. Confidence only matters if it shows in how he plays. Nygren has already been one of Celtic’s main goal threats this season, often arriving from deeper areas rather than leading the line.

If Celtic are to find a way through, it won’t just come from crosses or direct play. It will come from players like him finding space, taking shots early, or slipping passes through before the defence resets.
He’s done it on the international stage. Now it needs to carry over.
