Michel-Ange Balikwisha has sent a small but interesting message as he looks to fight his way back into the Celtic picture.
It was not a big statement. It was not a dramatic post. But the timing did stand out.
Before pre-season has even properly started, Balikwisha was already out working. After the season he has just had, that is exactly what he needs to be doing.
His first year at Celtic did not go the way anyone would have wanted. He arrived from Royal Antwerp with a decent reputation and a reported £5 million fee, but he never really got going.
Across all competitions for Celtic, he made 14 appearances and registered two assists. In the league, he played just 236 minutes.
That is not enough to properly judge him.
It is fair to say he has a lot to prove, but it is also fair to say Celtic have still not really seen the player they thought they were signing.
Balikwisha did not become a poor player overnight.
At Royal Antwerp, he had shown plenty. He scored 30 goals and had 17 assists in 145 appearances, while also playing in the Champions League and Europa League. He has been around big games before. He has produced at a good level before.
The challenge now is finding a way to make it work at Celtic.
Maybe the biggest question is his position.
Balikwisha has often been spoken about as a winger, but he does not really look like an out-and-out wide player. He is not the type who simply hugs the touchline, knocks it past a full-back and wins a foot race.
He looks more comfortable when he can come inside, link the play and get involved centrally.
That might be worth remembering this summer.
Towards the end of his time at Antwerp, he was used more as an attacking midfielder. If Celtic are about to lose Benjamin Nygren, or at least have to plan for life without him, then Balikwisha could yet be worth another look in that sort of role.
It would be easy to write him off after last season.
Plenty will. That is understandable.
But there is also a wider point here. Celtic paid serious money for him, and there is clearly ability there. If O’Neill can find a proper role for him, there might still be something to work with.
O’Neill only ever spoke positively about Balikwisha during the run-in. That does not mean he is suddenly going to become a key player, but it does suggest the door has not been slammed shut.
This summer will tell us a lot.
Celtic cannot afford to carry players who are not going to contribute. The squad needs improved, and there will be pressure on every player to show they belong.
Balikwisha will know that better than anyone.
Maybe it comes to nothing. Maybe Celtic decide to move on. But after one stop-start season, there is still an argument for giving him a proper chance in a role that actually suits him.
If Nygren does move on, Celtic may need a creative player who can operate centrally and add something different.
Balikwisha might not be the obvious answer.
But he is already here, he cost real money, and he looks determined to make sure Martin O’Neill notices him.
