Paul McStay has made clear what he wants the Celtic Season Ticket Alliance Trust to achieve in an exclusive interview with CeltsAreHere.

The former Celtic captain is fronting the new supporter initiative, which is aimed at giving season ticket holders a stronger voice inside the club. For McStay, the target is not vague. He wants Celtic supporters represented at board level.

Celtic’s season ticket base remains the core of the club. They pay in every year, turn up through flat winter games, back the side in Europe, and help make Parkhead what it is when the team needs lifted.

McStay was clear about where he wants this to lead.

He said: “The ultimate objective is to get somebody on the board.

“It just makes sense that Celtic supporters should have that capability to have somebody on the board to help with the communication between Celtic board and supporters and also accountability.

“Even although we’ve had a great season this year, it ended up fantastic with Martin and the boys winning the double. I think this is about the future of the club.

“Rather than have a voice protesting in the stadium or outside the stadium, I think it’s an opportunity to galvanise the support.

“I think it’s deserved.”

That is the line that will catch the eye. McStay is not talking about a short-term campaign after one bad transfer window or one poor run of form. He is looking at the way Celtic supporters are heard over a longer period.

McStay’s point is that winning trophies does not remove the need for better communication. If anything, periods of success are the ideal time to strengthen the relationship between the boardroom and the supporters rather than waiting for frustrations to build.

Supporters have spent years putting money into the club through season tickets, cup tickets, shirts and travel. Many do not own shares, but their commitment is still part of what keeps Celtic moving.

McStay’s message is simple enough. The fans who fill Celtic Park every second week should not only be heard from the stands. He wants their voice carried into the room where decisions are made.
