Benjamin Nygren has been named in the PFA Scotland Premiership Team of the Year for 2025/26, with the Celtic midfielder the only player from the club included. It reflects a season where his numbers have stood out in a side that hasn’t always found goals.
Nygren’s output has carried the team at times. He has been the main source of goals from midfield, stepping up when others have gone quiet. In games where Celtic have struggled to create, he has often been the one finding space or taking responsibility in the final third.

The rest of the team paints a different picture. Motherwell have a heavy presence, with Calum Ward, Paul McGinn, Elliot Watt, Elijah Just and Tawanda Maswanhise all selected. That points to a side that has been consistent across the season.
There is also a clear Celtic link beyond Nygren. Both Just and Maswanhise have been mentioned in connection with a move to the Hoops. Their inclusion here only adds to that, with both players producing regularly in attacking areas.

Nygren’s place is easy to understand. He has delivered throughout the season, often in matches where Celtic needed something different. His movement between the lines and willingness to take the ball in tight areas have made him difficult to deal with.
Kieran Tierney missing out will raise eyebrows. Five goals and seven assists from left-back is a strong return, especially given how often he has had to shift roles across the defence.

He has covered at centre-back and stepped into midfield when needed. That has been clear in games where Celtic have had to adjust during play.
The selection leans towards teams that have found consistency. Nygren has forced his way in through numbers, while the rest of the side reflects form shown elsewhere in the league.
