Police Scotland have issued a statement following the chaotic scenes at Celtic Park after Celtic sealed the Scottish Premiership title with a dramatic late win over Hearts.

When Callum Osmand fired home Celtic’s third goal deep into stoppage time, thousands inside Parkhead erupted. Supporters flooded onto the pitch in celebration as Martin O’Neill’s side confirmed themselves champions of Scotland after one of the most dramatic title races in recent memory.

However, the full-time scenes are now under investigation following claims Hearts players and staff were subjected to assaults and abuse during the pitch invasion.

Hearts released a statement after the match alleging some of their players and staff had been targeted amid the disorder following the final whistle.

Police Scotland have now confirmed they are reviewing the incident.

“We are engaging with Heart of Midlothian FC to establish if any of their players were assaulted on the pitch at the conclusion of the event.

“The circumstances of the incident are being reviewed.”

The match itself had been an extraordinary occasion. Hearts were minutes away from winning the title themselves after Lawrence Shankland’s opener gave the visitors the lead in the first half.

Arne Engels equalised from the penalty spot before late strikes from Daizen Maeda and Osmand completed the turnaround and sparked wild scenes across the stadium.

Security and police attempted to clear the pitch quickly following the invasion as players and staff headed down the tunnel.

  1. Sadly too many of our fans have been allowed to think that it is acceptable to behave like morons.

Bad enough that hundreds invade the pitch (again) but to goad, or possibly attack players is ridiculous.

Unfortunately Celtic as a club, with their pandering to the Ultras for many years now, have given these entitled neds the green light.

Instead of being able to rejoice at an incredible 56th league title, clinched in thrilling style, yet again, decent Celtic fans are instead hearing our name dragged into the gutter by the usual pyro-wielding vandals who think celebrating is all about climbing traffic lights and littering the streets of the local community and to hell with anyone else.

    • what assaults? Any footage of those? No. Were there a lot of cameras there? Yes. And yet still no footage of said ‘assaults’. I think there may have been an assault in the dignity of the likes of McInnes and Shankland. It’s very upsetting when you think you’re winning something but it ends in tears & wee boys laughing at you shouting; ” get it up you, ya fud!” Is that what you mean by assault?

  2. just sour grapes from Hearts. Shankland was engaged in angry scenes with 2 Celtic players and had obviously spat the dummy out when he realised the dream was over.
No Hearts player suffered a physical injury although jostling and verbal abuse is also unacceptable.
However if the shoe was on the other foot and they had won the title at Tynecastle nobody could tell me that their fans would not have invaded the pitch and a similar occurrence wouldn’t have happened.
    Bad losers.

  3. I didn’t see any GB on the pitch. it seemed to mostly come from the opposite corner. But apart from that I have to say that the behaviour of that minority of fans has once again cast a bad light on the club. There’s just no excuse for the goading or worse of any players still on the park. Celebrating one of the most fantastic victories in the club’s recent history does not give anyone the right to think it’s OK to behave in that manner. And while I wasn’t in the town centre after the game, it would appear that the behaviour of some morons has again shamed our great club. Celtic fans have got a brilliant reputation for their behaviour all over Europe and beyond. so for a large very minority of people to besmirch that is disgraceful.

  4. What happened after yesterday’s match at Parkhead was disgraceful it went some way to detract away from the incredible title win.
Don’t get me wrong emotions can take hold and running on to the pitch happens and is part of the fans celebrations and I’m fine with that but in no way can I condone any of the alleged physical and verbal attacks on staff and players of Hearts. This could lead to a return to the days when fans were caged in to prevent fans encroaching on to the pitch. If fans do run on to the pitch it should be once the opposition staff & players have left the pitch.

  6. I seen the police Scotland lined up not preparing to move bar 3 who grabbed a lad and one of them at the back of him kicking him when he was restrained.Police Scotland need to identify this officer and charge him with assault

  7. disgraceful statement from the pig sick Hearts. No Hearts player was injured by any supporter. No cuts no bruises and no contact unless there was some jostling which I didn’t see.
That is a sad and bad losers statement designed to in some way alleviate their shortcomings.
That applies too to the sad hacks who wanted a Hearts win at any cost and are now trying to say the game hadn’t ended despite the fact that Don Robertson confirmed he had blown the whistle for the end of the game.
    Go Celtic. Hail, Hail
