Celtic Confirm Additional Pre-Season Fixtures

Celtic have confirmed two more pre-season fixtures as preparations for the defence of their Premiership title gather pace.

While supporters continue to wait for official confirmation of the club’s managerial situation, Celtic have pressed ahead with plans for the summer schedule.

The Hoops had already announced a glamour friendly against Italian giants AC Milan, but two further matches have now been added to the calendar.

First up is a trip to Ireland, with Celtic set to face Irish Premier Division champions Shelbourne at Tolka Park in Drumcondra, Dublin.

The match will take place on Saturday, July 7 and is expected to attract a strong travelling support from across Ireland.

The club has also confirmed an eye-catching trip to Portugal during a summer training camp.

Celtic will face Sporting Lisbon on Saturday, July 14, with the match taking place at the Estadio Algarve near Faro.

The fixture carries extra significance given it falls during the 60th anniversary season of the Lisbon Lions’ historic European Cup triumph in 1967.

Sporting provide familiar opposition for Celtic supporters.

The two sides met during last summer’s preparations, with Celtic running out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Reo Hatate and Luke McCowan.

The Portuguese side went on to finish runners-up in the Primeira Liga and should provide another stern test as Celtic build towards the new campaign.

Pre-season is expected to be particularly important this year, with significant squad changes anticipated over the coming weeks and Champions League qualifiers looming on the horizon.

For now, though, Celtic’s summer schedule is beginning to take shape even as supporters continue to await official word on who will be leading the team into those fixtures.
