Rangers Confirm Bumper Celtic Ticket Allocation

Reports earlier this month claimed Celtic would be given the full Broomloan Stand for the Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox, but Rangers had not confirmed anything at that point.

A number of outlets pointed to Scottish FA rules which allow a bigger away allocation for cup matches. That led many to believe the usual league agreement would not apply and that Celtic would take the entire stand for the quarter-final.

Still, without an official word from Rangers, it was only talk.

Since the start of the 2018/19 season, away numbers at Ibrox have been cut back to a small corner section. The same applies when Rangers travel to Celtic Park. The days of thousands filling the away end have been gone for years.

Because this is a Scottish Cup match, SFA rules override the league deal between the clubs. That was the logic behind the early reports suggesting Celtic would return to the full Broomloan.

At that stage, Rangers had yet to release ticket details. Supporters were waiting for clarity, especially those in the Broomloan who would need to move seats if the stand was handed over.

The uncertainty added to the build-up. For Celtic fans, the idea of having a full end again means more than numbers. The noise carries differently when an entire stand is behind the goal.

A bigger travelling support does not win the game on its own, but it shifts the atmosphere. It gives players a clear backing during tough spells and adds energy if they start well.

There were also practical questions. Relocating a full stand of season ticket holders is not simple. It needs clear communication and available seats elsewhere.

Until Rangers confirmed the plan tonight, though, it remained expectation rather than fact. Only once the club has made it official did the situation become clear.
