A section of Celtic supporters have made their feelings known about the appointment of Robbie Keane by displaying a banner outside the stadium, which was also aimed at major shareholder Dermot Desmond.
They are set to hold talks with O’Neill, who led them to a league and Scottish Cup double during a drama-filled season. They are said to be planning for other eventualities, and it’s believed Keane is the frontrunner if they do turn to an outside candidate.
But the former Ferencvaros boss is proving a controversial choice among large elements of the Celtic support as the search for the next permanent manager continues.
Keane was the manager at Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv despite the situation in Gaza in October 2023.
He received widespread criticism when appointed, including from back in Ireland.
Keane stated he did “not want to get into politics” at the time of being appointed, saying he was there as a football manager.
Bhoys Celtic, a section of supporters, took to Instagram, sharing a picture of a banner displayed in front of Celtic Park.
It reads simply ‘Desmonds and Keane f*** off.’

Keane is reportedly ready to turn to former Hoops captain Scott Brown, Celtic B coach Johnny Hayes, and Stephen Glass for his backroom team if he is offered the job.
Glass was his assistant in Hungary before they both departed at the end of the 25/26 season.
Hayes played alongside Keane for the Republic of Ireland squad in 2016, near the end of the former striker’s international career.
Brown and Hayes were spotted at a Ferencvaros match last season, with the reason for their Budapest trip involving the UEFA Pro License course.
