Cambuslang Rangers have paid tribute to former Celtic player Ryan Caird following his death at the age of 29.
The club shared a message remembering the Cambuslang native and passed on its condolences to his family and friends.
Cambuslang Rangers said: “It’s with great sadness that we share the passing of former player Ryan Caird.
“Ryan was a local Cambuslang boy and former Celtic and Cambuslang Rangers player.
“Our thoughts are with parents, family and friends at this incredibly sad time. Rest Easy Cairdy.”
Caird’s mother, Allison Clements, also shared a deeply personal tribute after the news emerged.
She wrote: “My beautiful boy, we are heartbroken.”
Messages from relatives, friends and former team-mates have followed, reflecting the shock felt by those who knew him.
Caird had been involved in football from a young age and spent part of his development with Celtic.
The midfielder featured for the Hoops at under-19 level and was also selected to represent Scotland at under-16 level during his teenage years.
His connection with Celtic continued through the club’s youth set-up before he moved on at the age of 17.
Caird later played for Cambuslang Rangers, maintaining his ties with the local game and the area where he grew up.
During his time in Celtic’s system, he was regarded as a promising young player and reached a level which saw him involved in both club and international football.
While his career did not progress into Celtic’s first team, his time at the academy remains part of his story and has been remembered following the sad news.
No further details surrounding his death have been made public.
