Marcelo Saracchi’s Agent Sets Record Straight After Celtic Exit

Marcelo Saracchi’s agent has responded to the defender’s Celtic farewell by insisting that no formal offer was ever made to bring him back to Glasgow.

Saracchi confirmed his departure in a message to supporters, stating that he and his agent had done everything within their power to make a return happen.

His representative, Marcelo Tejera, has now provided further detail on how the talks unfolded, telling CeltsAreHere that Celtic’s interest never developed into a concrete proposal.

“Celtic FC never made an offer for Saracchi,” Tejera said.

“I do not know what is happening at the club, but the strange thing is that they never made an offer.”

Tejera said he spoke with Celtic only once during the process and claimed the club did not return with a formal bid or further meaningful contact.

“I only spoke to them once, a month ago,” he said.

“They never made any offer for Saracchi.”

The lack of an offer is particularly interesting given the reported cost of signing the defender permanently.

Earlier reports suggested Boca Juniors were prepared to sell Saracchi for less than £2 million, while more recent claims placed their asking price at around £1.5 million.

That would have represented a relatively modest fee for an experienced international who had already spent a full season at Celtic and helped the club win a domestic double.

Tejera also rejected any suggestion that excessive financial demands from the player’s side prevented a deal from being completed.

“It was a very low amount that was being requested,” Tejera said.

“The club did not want to make any effort for him.

“We have now ended our negotiations with Celtic FC. We are looking for other clubs.”

The agent declined to reveal the exact salary involved but maintained that the terms would have represented strong value for Celtic.

The comments support Saracchi’s public claim that his side pushed to secure another spell at Parkhead.

The Uruguayan had made clear that he wanted to return after playing an important role in Celtic’s double-winning season. Martin O’Neill had also spoken positively about retaining him.

Saracchi was available for transfer after returning to Boca Juniors, with the Argentine club placing him outside their first-team plans and allowing him to seek a move elsewhere.

Despite that apparent willingness from the player’s camp and Boca’s reported asking price, Tejera’s account is that Celtic never reached the stage of submitting an offer.

The agent had previously explained that Saracchi would not remain in Argentina and that several clubs had made contact over his future. He also confirmed that discussions with other European sides were progressing while Celtic’s interest had gone quiet.

Tejera has now drawn a line under the matter and is concentrating on finding Saracchi’s next club.
