Marcelo Saracchi’s future at Boca Juniors looks even more uncertain after the Argentine club confirmed he is among six players now training away from the main squad.
The left-back has already been linked with a move away this summer, with Celtic previously mentioned as a possible destination following his loan spell in Glasgow.
Martin O’Neill had spoken openly about wanting Saracchi back if a deal could be done, and confirmed Celtic had held talks with the player’s agent.
Now Boca Juniors have made their own position clearer.
A club statement, carried by the Daily Record, read: “They have all been notified of the situation and are training separately from the main group.”
Saracchi is one of six players affected, which strongly suggests Boca are preparing for life without him.
Training away from the first-team group does not automatically mean a transfer is close, but it leaves little doubt that the Uruguayan is no longer central to the club’s immediate plans.
That could help speed up his search for a new team.
Saracchi made a positive impression during his time at Celtic and quickly became a useful option on the left. His energy, aggression and willingness to get forward gave the side something different, while his familiarity with the club would make any return relatively straightforward.
But the main issue remains the lack of a formal Celtic proposal.
Tejera has already made clear that talks did not turn into an offer.
The latest development at Boca only adds pressure to get his future sorted.
For Celtic, the situation is still one to watch. O’Neill clearly liked the player and spoke publicly about wanting him back, but unless the club return with something concrete, Saracchi now appears more likely to continue his career elsewhere.
Boca’s decision to move him out of the main group makes that outcome look more likely by the day.
