Scott Brown has shared an emotional message after playing a memorable role in Celtic’s title celebrations at Celtic Park.
The former captain, who left the club during the Covid era without ever receiving a proper farewell in front of supporters, was back in the east end as part of Sky Sports’ coverage for the dramatic final day clash with Hearts.
But after full-time, Brown’s role became far bigger than punditry.
As Celtic supporters celebrated wildly following the late title-clinching goals from Daizen Maeda and Callum Osmand, Brown disappeared down the tunnel before emerging moments later carrying the Premiership trophy onto the pitch.
In a moment that perfectly linked two generations of Celtic captains, Brown handed the trophy over to his successor, Callum McGregor, who then lifted it in front of a packed and jubilant Celtic Park.
The gesture sparked huge emotion among supporters, many of whom never got the opportunity to properly say goodbye to one of the club’s greatest modern captains due to the pandemic restrictions surrounding his departure in 2021.
Brown has now reflected on the occasion in a post on social media.
He wrote:
“What an absolute honour it was to lift the league trophy on the pitch. The reception was something I have missed over the years from the fans 🔥.
“But great to be back for the day @celticfc thank you 🍀 5inarow”
Brown captained Celtic through one of the most dominant eras in the club’s history, winning multiple league titles, cups and trebles before handing the armband to McGregor.
Seeing the pair together with the trophy after another dramatic title triumph was a fitting image for many supporters after one of the wildest afternoons Celtic Park has witnessed in years.
