Celtic have been linked with Scotland defender Scott McKenna, with reports suggesting the club have been watching the Dinamo Zagreb centre-back.

The Celtic Way claim, via reports in Croatia, that the Hoops are among a number of sides keeping an eye on the 29-year-old, with clubs in England also believed to be following his progress.

McKenna only moved to Croatia last summer, but he is on course to finish the season with a league title. Dinamo Zagreb are clear at the top, and he has been a regular part of that run.

From a Celtic point of view, the link comes as the club continue to look at their options in defence. There have been changes at the back across the season, with different partnerships used at times.

McKenna would offer a different type of defender. He is comfortable dealing with direct play and physical strikers, which is something Celtic come up against often in the Premiership. His experience in Scotland and England means he would know what to expect.

The reported fee is another factor. Dinamo are said to value him at around £10 million, which would put him towards the higher end of Celtic’s spending on a defender.

That price will matter when decisions are made. McKenna’s current situation also adds to it. He has spoken well about his time in Croatia and is part of a side chasing a league and cup double.

For now, Celtic appear to be watching rather than acting. The interest is there, but it remains to be seen if it develops further as the summer window gets closer.

At this stage, he is another name on the list as the club look at ways to strengthen at the back.
