Sky Sports have made their Scottish Premiership title race decision for Wednesday night, and Celtic supporters will not be happy with it.
The broadcaster has confirmed Hearts against Falkirk at Tynecastle will be shown live instead of Celtic’s trip to Motherwell, despite just one point separating the two sides at the top of the table with only two games remaining.
Martin O’Neill’s side moved back into the race with Sunday’s 3-1 derby win over Rangers at Celtic Park. Daizen Maeda’s second-half double cut Hearts’ lead down to a single point after the Edinburgh side dropped points in their 1-1 draw at Fir Park on Saturday night.
That result changed the picture completely heading into the midweek fixtures.
Celtic now travel back to Motherwell knowing a win would pile huge pressure on Hearts before the final weekend. Instead of showing that match live, Sky Sports have opted to focus on the leaders at Tynecastle.
The broadcaster will show any goals Celtic or Motherwell score as they happen, but it still isn’t exactly the same.
It is an interesting call given the wider context around the title race.
Celtic against Motherwell carries major pressure for the visitors after everything that has happened over the last two months. Defeat at Tannadice back in March left many writing Celtic off completely. Since then, O’Neill’s side have reset themselves and found form again at exactly the right time.
There is also the added edge that Celtic kick off at the same time knowing any slip could effectively hand control back to Hearts before the final day showdown at Celtic Park next Saturday.
That final game of the season between Celtic and Hearts will be shown live by Sky Sports, with the title race potentially going right down to the last afternoon of the campaign.
If results go Celtic’s way in midweek, the atmosphere inside Celtic Park for that final fixture could be unlike anything seen this season.
Especially after the atmosphere and drama produced at Celtic Park on Sunday.
Sky Sports clearly see it differently.
