Celtic Supporters Limited Set Out AGM Plan

Celtic Supporters Limited have set out their plan to build a shareholder voice ahead of the club’s next AGM.

Speaking exclusively to CeltsAreHere, Brian McLaughlin, one of the authors of the Celtic Paradox paper, explained that CSL are not trying to claim they speak for every Celtic supporter.

Instead, the group want to organise their own members, build a shareholding block, gather proxy votes and use that voice inside the structures of Celtic plc.

That is what makes their route different from protest. CSL believe the biggest pressure point is not outside Celtic Park, but inside the AGM, where shareholders can formally challenge the board.

McLaughlin said the group’s first target is to build enough influence to make Celtic take notice.

He said: “We are a corporate governance group. We think this battle can only be won in the boardroom.

“Through a meaningful shareholder voice and that’s what we focus and stay on.

“For us it’s about educating the fans as to why that’s important to make sure they try and get them back our cause.

“We’d be looking to get a hundred shareholders which we already have to put forward the resolution as the first benchmark.

“The three percent number, three percent shareholding, is the big first one.

“That then you sort of come into the corporate governance rules and you can’t be ignored in any way, shape or form.

“Our plan is to make sure that those resolutions that currently pass at 98 percent at the November AGM are done at 70 percent.

“That’s the kind of meaningful impact that we already have.

“That for us is a real shot across the bow of this voice matters now.”

McLaughlin also made clear that CSL are not presenting themselves as the voice of the entire Celtic support.

But the aim from CSL is clear. They want supporters who hold shares, or who can grant proxy votes, to stop being scattered and start acting together.

That matters because Celtic’s fan-shareholder base has been fragmented for years. Many supporters bought shares during the Fergus McCann era, but have never had a strong collective platform at AGM level.


For CSL, November is the first real test.

If they can build a serious proxy block before then, the club may find it harder to treat shareholder discontent as background noise.

  2. Another week gone buy an guess what still no manger. It doesn’t surprise me DD doesn’t give a ***k. we hear that this player and that player wants to move, if they all do we have a major rebuild with no manger. I don’t think DD is the great businessman everyone makes him out to be, every successful business knows you have to speculate to accumulate that’s why we are in this mess

    Now it’s up to the board to blow the dust off the biscuit tin and back him big time. Not easy as we’re are just about in the midst of the WC, players hold all the cards, though we have Maeda still on contract for a further year and Engels two years. I’d hope we dont have to keep them if they start playing games, but it’s important we have a clear run at our rebuild.
