Chris Sutton has given his immediate reaction to Celtic’s 3-1 win over Falkirk, focusing on two moments that could shape the final run of the season.

The former striker was on commentary duty for the match and watched Celtic take control early before being tested after the break. The game was not straightforward. Falkirk found a way back into it, and for a spell, Celtic had to deal with pressure they had created for themselves.

In the end, the result is what matters. Celtic move level on points with Hearts and sit a point ahead of Rangers, although both rivals have games in hand. That keeps the pressure on, but it also means there is no room for any slip.

Daizen Maeda made the difference. His pressing led to the opener, and his movement never gave Falkirk’s defence a rest. He added a second late on, arriving in the right place after good work down the wing. It was the kind of performance Celtic need from him at this stage.

There was also a moment that stood out late in the game. Alistair Johnston’s return from injury brought a lift, not just on the pitch but around the ground. Celtic have missed him in recent weeks, and having him back changes the shape of the back line.

Sutton picked up on both points after the match.

Maeda’s form matters because of how Celtic play. He sets the tone without the ball. When he presses well, it pushes the whole team up the pitch. That was clear again here, especially for the first goal.

Johnston’s return gives balance on the right side. Ralston had filled in, but Johnston offers a different level of pace and recovery. That allows Celtic to hold a higher line and deal with counters more cleanly.

The performance was not perfect. Falkirk had chances and took one, which will be a concern going into tougher games.

But the outcome keeps Celtic right in it, and with players returning and others finding form, the timing could work in their favour.
