Celtic have been urged to sign Tawanda Maswanhise, with the Zimbabwean being touted to strengthen their attacking options. The wait for a permanent transfer goes on, with Michael Stewart seeing it as a no-brainer for the Hoops.
The 23-year-old represented his nation at AFCON very recently, netting for them in the group stages. His performances were rewarded as he was named among the Most Promising Talents at this year’s edition of the tournament.
Congratulations to Tawanda Maswanhise for being named among the Most Promising Talents at AFCON 2025! πΏπΌ

He picked up where he left off at Motherwell, returning from AFCON to then rack up four goal contributions in his last three domestic games, including the only goal in their Scottish Cup fourth-round win over Ross County at the weekend. Martin O’Neill and Mark Fotheringham were in attendance at Fir Park amid growing links with a move.
He is third in the Premiership scoring charts with 10, and in total has 17 contributions in 27 appearances for the North Lanarkshire side this season.
His teammate, Andy Halliday, spoke of growing interest around Maswanhise recently and insisted the club won’t let him go so easily during this window.
Michael Stewart has weighed in on the forward’s current situation, saying there are very few negatives to signing him. Speaking on the Premier Sports Scottish Football Social Club, Stewart said:
“Heβs got the potential to step up. I donβt think thereβs any doubt about it.
“He can play on the right-hand side, thatβs no question, and that is a troubled position for Celtic. If you were to invest in Maswanhise, it wouldnβt be crazy sums of money.
“When youβre recruiting domestically, the upside of these transfers are potentially very big, and the downside to it, I think, is limited. Youβre not busting the bank to go and get these people.”
Maswanhise has been one of the league’s standout performers this season. Many would welcome his arrival with open arms given he’s shown his ability on numerous occasions against opponents who would be no stranger to him.
Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou has moved to cool off interest on his in-demand player, stating he feels ‘calm’ about the situation. It remains to be seen whether Celtic make a concrete move for Maswanhise or not.
