Martin O’Neill has provided an update on Kieran Tierney after the defender was forced off during Celtic’s 3-1 win over Falkirk at Celtic Park.
Tierney played a key role in the match, scoring Celtic’s second goal with a powerful finish that gave the side control before the break. It was a moment that showed his quality, arriving at the right time and striking cleanly from the left side.

However, his afternoon did not last the full game. He was replaced in the second half, with signs that the physical demands had caught up with him. That will be a concern given the stage of the season and the run of games still to come.
Celtic have been managing fitness across the squad, and Tierney’s situation looks similar. He has had spells out over the years, and has only recently returned to regular action this season. The intensity of matches now, with little margin for error, puts more strain on players who are building back up.
The left-back role in this team asks a lot. It is not just defending. Tierney is expected to get forward, overlap, and deliver into the box. That constant movement adds to the load over 90 minutes.
O’Neill addressed Tierney’s condition after the match.
He said: (TCW), “Yeah, Kieran was. I’m hoping that he’ll be all right. I think from the knock, I think he recovered.
“But it was just the general fatigue with him, I think, is still causing a bit of a problem.
“Great goal from him as well. Great goal. Great goal from a very, very fine player.”
The focus now turns to recovery. Celtic face another demanding fixture next weekend against Hibernian at Easter Road, and decisions will have to be made on how much Tierney can give.

There are options in the squad, which may allow O’Neill to manage his minutes more carefully. That could mean shorter spells on the pitch or being held back for certain matches.
For now, the signs suggest it is not a fresh injury, but managing fatigue will be key if Tierney is to play a part in the run-in.
