Hearts defender Stuart Findlay has admitted that last season’s dramatic title defeat to Celtic is still difficult to come to terms with and keeps him up at night.
The centre-back revealed the pain of missing out on the Scottish Premiership crown continues to linger as Hearts prepare to return to Champions League action.
Celtic secured the title in dramatic fashion on the final day of last season, coming from behind to defeat Hearts 3-1 at Celtic Park and retain their crown.
For the visitors, it was a devastating end to a campaign that had promised so much.
Findlay has now admitted those memories have not faded.
Speaking ahead of the new season, he said:
“You don’t have to tell me how disappointing last year was. I’d be lying if I said I’m completely over it. That’s not the case.
“Sometimes you lie in your bed and think about that day at Celtic.” [Glasgow Times]
Hearts came close to ending Celtic’s domestic dominance.
For long periods on the final day, Hearts looked on course to make history before Celtic mounted a late comeback in front of a packed Celtic Park.
The dramatic finale remains one of the defining moments of Martin O’Neill’s first season back in charge, with Callum Osmand’s late goal sealing the title after the Hoops had overturned the deficit.
While Celtic celebrated another league triumph, Hearts were left wondering what might have been.
With both clubs set to compete in Europe this season, there could soon be fresh challenges to focus on, but the Hearts defender has made it clear that last May’s events remain firmly in his thoughts.
