Tomas Cvancara scored his first Celtic goal at the weekend in what was his home debut. The Hoops’ new arrival has spoken about getting off the mark early on and has issued a message as they look to reclaim top spot in the title race.
The striker marked his debut against Hearts with an assist, doing brilliantly to get to the byline to tee up a tap-in for Yang. He followed that up with a neat header to open the scoring against Falkirk on Sunday, with the Hoops going on to win 2-0.
It was his first goal since October, when he netted his only goal when on-loan at Turkish side Antalyaspor. Now, he says he has a point to prove as he looks to help guide Celtic to the title.
He said (RecordSport):
“Everybody has to prove themselves to play for Celtic.
“I’m very happy. I think for Celtic, the most important thing is to keep winning and we just go for it and I’m happy just for that.”
He was praiseful of teammate Kieran Tierney, who provided the assist for his first Hoops goal:
“It was a perfect cross, I think that I also timed it very well and it was a nice goal.”

Cvancara is still adapting to the physicality of the Scottish game, but has great belief in himself that Sunday will be a springboard for more success, personally and collectively:
“I feel good. It’s just a different type of league. It’s a lot of duels, so I think that I have adapted quite well. I just have to keep going, and hopefully I will get more and more minutes and just help the team. Will it be the first of many in green and white? Hopefully.”
The Czechia international is aware of the game-by-game mentality instilled in the squad, but has also issued a message as the title race continues to heat up:
“I think that also we as a team, but also myself, we’re just going step by step and this is the most important. Today we take three important points, and we just keep going. I hope that if I keep scoring the goals and we will keep winning, that we will keep hunting them for the title.”
The 25-year-old has surely secured his place in the starting lineup for Wednesday night’s clash with Aberdeen at Pittodrie. He’ll look to do more of the same to cause the Dons’ backline as much trouble as possible; another Sutton-like header would be the icing on the cake.
Every win matters, and Martin O’Neill knows that. The Hoops look to gain momentum to make it three wins in a row in all competitions after securing their spot in the Europa League play-off round.
Wednesday night’s match at Aberdeen kicks off at 8pm and is live on Sky Sports.
